Tulsi 2018 - Thai Holy Basil - Ocinum sanctum - Premium Pure Essential Oil - Rising Phoenix Perfumery
Country : Prachinburi, Thailand
Species : Ocinum sanctum
Extraction : Stainless-distilled Leaves and Tops
Tulsi (Hindi) - otherwise known as Holy Basil - or as Tulasi (Sanskrit). It is a perennial flowering plant from the mint family called Lamiaceae. Though this plant is native to the Indian subcontinent, it grows throughout Southeast Asia.
Tulsi is quite a challenging material to source, and even when found, it is generally only Indian Tulsi that is available. I actually went to the trouble of commissioning this batch from a farmer friend in Thailand. Anyone familiar with Thai cuisine knows just how delicious and sweet and special the Thai-grown basil is. Needless to say, not only is it rare, but I’ve shelved it since 2018, and I feel like I’m really happy with what this oil has transformed into.
Tulsi is an adaptogenic herb and is considered great for stress. Even simply smelling from the bottle will melt the day away and put a smile on your face.
Great for a diffuser or for wearing it neat - but it pairs especially well with herbs, florals, and “savory meats” like Sandalwood and Oud. Just like in the kitchen - you’ll find in small doses it’s quite a versatile material.
The aging has tempered its bitter-green herbaceous beds and brought forth more of a clove flower-like zestiness that is a delight in the nostrils. It is Anise-like, balsamic, and persistently sweet. I’m excited to finally be giving you a chance to smell this !
On its own, it extends beyond a Top Note into the Heart. in formulation I can sense it’s impact for quite some time.
As a custom production and 6 years and counting of maturation - you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything else like it out there. Enjoy!
