This is another unicorn. A DEEP one.
I’ve mentioned previously that for the past few years, I’ve had a dedicated employee who finds some unique stuff for me traveling across India - who also distills some unique stuff for me.
So I pick up a lot of stuff we find along the way. Which begs the question - what to do when you have small batches of shavings and chips, but it’s not quite enough to run a single distillation? Combine them, of course!
For fun, I made a batch combining Filippino, Sri Lankan, and Hindi woods that I called 3 Kings. I reserved some of the woods to make a second, fun, experimental batch, which we have here.
For this experimental batch, i decided to combine some increasingly rare wild Hainan wood. We changed the distillation parameters a little bit to pull out some different accents from the woods - aiming for something a little sweeter (from the Hainan), and maybe a little more resinous. I wanted this to be rich and luxurious - and I think you’ll agree, we’ve done just that.
This is a batch we produced back in February of 2022 from an amalgamation of shavings and chips from 8 different locations in 4 different countries - detailed above. Highly unique and probably not something we could replicate due to the uniqueness of the mix we put together.
Took me 2 years to gather the materials for this little project, and now that it’s got more than a year of aging on it - I think it’s ready to hit the streets.
This is the 6th Filippino oil I’ve offered :
2 New Gens (Adobo Leyte & Tandaya Leyte)
2 Traditionals (Kakawit & Manila)
And now - 2 different Co-Distillations 💪🏼
(3 Kings & 4 Emperors)
6 Unicorns 🦄 and counting …
THE SCENT
If we’re being honest - I’m having a little trouble pegging this one down. When you smell it - you’ll understand what I mean …
Smelling from the bottle - I think you’d be fooled into thinking it’s a Hindi. The light pastoral scent of Hay and light fermentation leading you to think it’s a pure Indian Oud oil.
Then comes the swipe. Wait. It’s not a Hindi. 🧐
Yes, there is some pastoral Hay at first whiff, but that’s a momentary trip through the fields. Don’t let it deter you, because what awaits behind it is sheer magic.
Wildflowers from the tropical Philippines and Hainan and Ocean Breezes from Sri Lanka are infused throughout the Sweet Leather and Tea notes from the Hindis.
I pick up hints of Incense Smoke and Amber … like light wafts of a cup of Lapsang Souchong steaming in the background.
It’s as if we combined the best of four legendary regions and alchemically bound them together in a pot. 🦄 Oh wait - that’s EXACTLY what we did 😉
If this were a cup of tea, I’d be in Heaven 🥰
If India is the King of Agarwoods … 🤴🏼
And Sri Lanka is the Jewel of India … 💎
If the Philippines are the Jewel of the South Pacific … 💎
And Hainan the Crown Jewel of Chinese Agarwoods … 👑
Combined - we have the 4 Emperors.
