I have my own operations in different regions, with what is arguably my largest operation in India. I have a bunch of oils that will take me literal years to get through producing from all the work I've been doing out there, as I've stockpiled huge quantities of material from the past several years, that will take me quite some time to work through distilling. It also means we will have some really cool and unique stuff that will be pretty much unheard of from anywhere else, as I'm the only vendor I know going to these lengths of internal productions.
The Trees used in this particular Tripura Series are all 150-450+ years old, and are all trees that I acquired and took down. Will take quite awhile to get woods over here (years, likely) - but at some point, you may see some of these insane woods making their way into the shop.
Tripuri 1 is the first oil from the back half of 2024, when my team was in Tripura.
I was actually in India in Jan/Feb of 2025 - and this oil we began while I was actually in country. Which makes this particular oil really cool.
ABOUT THIS SERIES
From our time in Tripura, I have a bunch of very high grade single tree oils I'll eventually get around to producing. Until I can get to the single tree productions - in the mean time, I got started by combining some woods from the trees we took down to produce a line of oils (that for the industry, would be very high grade). But from me - these oils will be something that I can offer at fantastic prices considering this is all from materials we've controlled from harvest through production. The yields were exceptional (not something the average oils out there are doing), indicating the quality of the woods I reserved for this particular project were even better than I had hoped. It also means I can offer these oils at really great prices due to the unexpected high yields. These oils are punching way above their price tags.
We were in different areas of Tripura - this particular oil is a "pan-Tripuri" production, meaning it is made from a mix of all of these trees we took down, from all over the state. It is a single region oil, but not a single origin tree oil, of which I have many planned for the future. Stay tuned on those ...
SCENT
Let me first say that Tripura-origin oils are some of my favorites. There is a "classical" Hindi-ness to the odor profiles of this region, and the oils can sometimes develop a nuttiness over time that smells like toasted nuts that I just love. The nutty hints of which are just beginning to peek out in this oil.
The State of Tripura is in kind of an "armpit" of Bangladesh - and you'll find some crossover with Bangladeshi oils in the Tripuri DNA. Although I don't detect any chocolate notes emerging in this oil - some of the trees used in its production were from right along the Bangala border where more prominent chocolate notes tend to emerge. So who knows - maybe in time there may be some that develop as the oil ages.
Don't worry - the oil smells phenomenal and delightfully Tripui !
This particular oil is from the first 3 days of distillation, which tends to capture the most pristine notes.
Tripura oils are also interesting in that - they tend to exhibit some Animalic and Leathery notes, rich and creamy like, even when pristinely distilled with no fermentation. Tripuri 1 you'll notice, has some great smooth Suede and Leather notes, and is a little joyfully Animalic.
As I mentioned - I'm also detecting some Toasted Nuttiness beginning to develop. I'm already picking up hints of Pralines and Toasted Cashews, which has me really excited. I bet by 2026 or 2027, that nuttiness will become more pronounced, which really makes this worth grabbing some to further age!
That Creaminess I mentioned, is also a savory sweetness that seeps from the Leather, with a Tea-like hint of Saffron Spice that blows my mind. Really sticks in and tickles your nose in a blissfully delightful manner.
The body of the scent is a Woody Incense and Smooth Leatheriness, with a Buttery Pastry Shop drydown. If you're familiar with my work, you know I love a good Incense'y oil. There's "Smoke Incense" and "Resin Incense" - expect the Resinous in this case. It's lovely.
The longevity is great, and the projection is good and strong. Don't let the cheap price fool you - this is a banger.
For a first run from the "bulk" material that I'll be distilling, I'm awfully happy with how this oil came out. I think you'll love it as much as I do !
-----
This is a real easy wear for an Indian oil. I've been wearing this in the Georgia heat and humidity of June and July, and going back and forth between the brutal heat outside and the air conditioned inside makes for a lot of fun, deep inhales. So don't be afraid of a warm weather Hindi ... as good as they are to wear in Winter, the Summer Heat brings out an entirely different dimension to enjoy !
If you love Hindis - 2025 Tripuri 1 should be sitting on your shelf !
