Tiger King II 2021 - TK2 Bead Grade Malaysian Tigerwood Pure Oud Oil

After the success of my last three New Gen Malaysians (Ipoh Strawberry, Terengganu Ant, and the original batch of Tiger King) - I wanted to push the boundary again and make another stellar oil, this time from an even higher grade of Tigerwood Bead Waste.

**To be clear - this is a new, higher grade of Tiger King we made in April of 2021 (the previous batch we juiced in January of 2021).

I collected whatever dusts and scraps specifically from Tigerwood logs from all over Peninsular Malaysia that I could get my hands on. When I felt like we had collected enough - it all went in to the pot - and what came out was nothing short of perfection.

One note on species ...

Many logs get labeled as being Malaccensis or whichever species - but a few old timers that I've spoken with tell me specifically that Tigerwoods from peninsular Malaysia actually come from the Rostrata species - a name some have heard of but few have ever seen batches of surface. I think there is an argument to be made that Tigerwoods have been mis-identified in the past, and are potentially the specific creations of Rostrata trees.

What makes Tigerwoods special is their characteristic stronger than normal room temp scent, which is also one of the reasons they are highly prized for making beads. The other is the beautiful "flower" patters of resin the logs usually form, which when cut, make beautiful resinated patterns in the beads.

Another interesting note - Tigerwoods rarely sink, although they can and do get quite resinous. The highly aromatic woods are due to a very high oil to resin ratio, which is why they are more aromatic at room temp than other woods. Even lower resin dense Tigerwoods are highly prized for making beads for this reason - as the high oil content is more meaningful than the resin density inasmuch as the beads will be aromatic, regardless.

With that said - I wanted to juice a batch made of exclusively Tigerwood bead waste to see how it would turn out. And oh my did it turn out !!


THE SCENT


Contrasting against my previously sold out oil, Terengganu Ant, which was made exclusively from Ant woods known for their sweetness - Tigerwoods are often known for their floral aromas - one reason that Tigerwoods I think are often mis-identified as being Microcarpa or Beccariana species. Tiger King II 2021 strengthens this theory of mine ...

Tiger King II 2021 opens up with a burst of bright tropical fruits and narcotic florals - even more vivid than our initial batch. It's punchy - Roaring off the dipstick and on to your skin looking for its favorite prey - your nose.

This oil is so complex I'm not even sure how exactly to describe the cornucopia of fruit and floral notes, and I seem to pick up different things on different wears, making it more difficult to pinpoint exactly what I'm smelling.

As a few customers have mentioned to me - it’s as if the Top, Heart, and Base are perceptive all at once - swirling around in multifaceted form, showcasing different facets from one moment to the next.

Sometimes its Guava and Citrus and Gardenia - other times its Passion and Jackfruit and indolic Jasmines. The one constant is that these swirling tropical fruits and narcotic florals are always tightly wrapped around rich, resinous Tigerwood Resin.

Despite being brightly fruity and floral - Tiger King II 2021 also manages to be deeply Oudy and Resinous.

One of my fellow vendors who has tried this oil was having a little trouble pinning down the origin, which isn’t surprising as the oil is very enigmatic, and doesn’t shout out as being Malaysian in origin. Viet? No. Laos? No. Burmese? No. Thai!? No. It’s a Sinensis, right!? Nope. But I will admit - the drydown DOES smell like a rich Sinensis. 🥰

It's an incredibly complex and fun to wear oil. I only wish there were Liters of this. haha
