Jungle : Terengganu, Malaysia
Class : Wild, Insect Wood
Species : Malaccensis

Malaysian Agarwood is beloved by all. Although Vietnam has the most diverse scent spectrum (with well over 100 distinct flavors) - Malaysian woods are a close second place. Diversity of species (Malaccensis, Hirta/Candan, Beccariana) plays a role in that diversity, as does elevation, proximity to the seaside, distinctive soils, and elevation.

The best Nutmeg and Durian, for example, are from Malaysia. If you've ever had Malaysian food - a rich fusion of Chinese, Thai, Indian, and domestic Malay flavors - you'll know what I'm talking about. Malaysia is a powerhouse of flavor - and this is just as true for Agarwood.

There are many regions in Malaysia with their distinctive scents. Terengganu is one of those regions, and one of the general distinctions of the region is a prevalence for woods from higher elevations. Like tea, woods from higher elevations seem to have a higher pitch to them, and are more beloved by those in the know.

SCENT

This batch of Terengganu is also insect wood. Formations triggered by insects - especially ants and burrowing worms - tend to have a sweetness to them especially loved in the Asian market.

Expect a syrupy sweetness, hints of florals, whisps of spice - and mountain air and tinges of oceanic breezes.

Priced just right - this is a great batch for special occasions as well as more frequent daily burns, especially if you can pick up a little quantity.
