Takengon is a town in Aceh, Indonesia. The town itself sits on three subdistricts of Central Aceh Regency - Bebesen, Kebayakan, and Lut Tawar, and acts as the seat of Central Aceh Regency.
The town is in the highlands of western Sumatra, situated on the shores of Lake Laut Tawar. The region around Takengon is well known for its coffee. The indigenous people in Takengon are the Gayonese people or as they’re usually called, “urang Gayo”.
We have a fabulous batch of Takengon Agarwood Chips (Malaccensis ... this oil is a Hirta/Candan) in the shop, as well, if you'd like a taste of what the woods from the area are like. Nice thick, solid pieces that are, quite frankly, a fabulous bang for your buck.
Now on to the oil!
THE SCENT
Hirta/Candan woods tend to have a little spice in them, especially from Aceh. I wouldn't call this oil spicy, although the hints of whiskey and gentle woodsmoke will pleasantly tickle your nose as if it were. What folks often remark when they are here smelling the oil is just how potent the fresh-brewed coffee note is on the front end. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised why they grow so much coffee in the area ... the soil around the area seems perfect for it!
This was actually a batch of oil we produced for a Gulf client - and in order to hit the target quantity that was requested, we had to make sure we produced enough. This is what I call a "runover batch" from a custom commissioned distillation. The client was ecstatic with what we put in to his hands ... and I think you will be, too.
And as this is a runover batch - I’m able to offer this at a lower price point. This oil is batting easily at twice the price I’m offering it at.
Wisps of incense chips gently heating on one of our Rising Phoenix Subitisms is the first thing that'll grab your nose, along with a Lacquered Cherrywood note that is exquisite - intermingling with what a few have told me is like a bold cup of freshly brewed coffee. Let me put it lightly ... it’s a kick in the nose in the best possible way 😉
As that red cherrywood subsides, Takengon 2020 slides in to the meat of an incense session - rich and ever-so-smooth sizzling resin, almost like a fine glass of whiskey and heather, which rides on for hours. Slowly, slowly developing into a resinous goodness that should keep you smiling all day.
I’ve sent a few clients samples and they’ve all returned for full bottles. It’s THAT good 🙌🏼
This oil is a stellar bang for your buck. Worth stocking a few bottles.
