I've been trying to make some really diverse incense sticks - stuff from places rarely seen any longer, as well as from places few have even heard of. This falls in the "hard to find region, rarely heard of area".

The goal has always been to make "austere smelling sticks" ... inspiration I'd say from the Baieido mentality of "just the wood", rather than a flavored or spiced stick. We are really getting down, if I may say, to that space that resides between an Art and a Science. I'm sure there's a word for that. haha - This batch came out really nicely.

I had previously made a batch of Sinking Sumbawa Senkoh Sticks - and I did not have the specifics of where in Sumbawa it was from, outside of being from Sumbawa. That batch of sticks came out thicker, before we had perfected making these 1mm sticks. I was lucky this time around to have very specific details on where this batch of wood came from - and the ability to make an even more refined stick this time.

Now that we've got these 1mm thin sticks down - the last batch I loved so much that I wanted to make another batch of Sumbawa.

This batch hails from the eastern region near Doromata. The wood was harvested and collected by hunters from the Orong backwoods, Gegerung village.

These chips were beautifully cleaned, thick, and juicy with resin. I knew they'd make a fantastic batch of incense, and in the 1.2mm version - less smokey and even more refined than the already exceptional last batch (which is still currently available in the shop - can get some of each to compare and contrast!).

SCENT

You can see from the photos in the listing - this batch of chips was fantastic.

We ground up over a kg of gorgeous Super and Sinking chips. Big thick suckers ... not broken chips.

It's hard enough getting material from this area - but I decided to make a nice batch from the entire lot of fantastic material, and this time to make them in the 1.2mm size.

The result is a breathtaking, powdery oudiness. Hints of spice and an airy jungleness. As the resin in these chips was thick and juicy - there is a resin density to the scent that not only is enjoyable as the stick is burning - but I've noticed I'll still smell it in the room the next day. These sticks - stick around, so to speak!

Monkoh quality - worth stashing a few tubes.
