Shamama 2022 - Traditional Indian Attar

I’ve been long on the hunt for some traditionally produced, natural, Indian Attars. I’ve been on the hunt, far and wide - and have found a few to my liking.

Shamama is one of several classes of traditional Indian Attars - along with Black Musk, Majmua, and Amberi, among others - that are composed of various materials. In the past, nearly every distillation family had their own secret family formulations. Sadly - fewer and fewer families are producing these the old way - and nowadays synthetics reign.

But the real stuff, if you can find it, is a traditionally distilled Indian Attar, composed of various - often dozens of - materials distilled into one another over several months.

This is what we have here with Phoenix’s Shamama. A traditional production containing dozens of woods, resins, spices and florals distilled over 4 months. This particular family recipe contains over 200+ materials 🤯 including Sandalwood oil, Agarwood/Oud oil, Wintergreen oil (Khas), Mehndi (Henna) & a huge variety of Subcontinental Indian herbs.

It’s taken me quite some time to get here - and now I am happy to present to you this oil, along with a few other traditional productions.

You’ll find Phoenix’s Shamama to be musky, mossy, almost greenish and a woody - with hints of florals and spices and ‘je ne sais quoi’ - collected across the Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
