In my never ending pursuit to push the bounds of odor profiles and the imagination - we’ve stumbled into a new area we don’t often see Sandalwood oils from. The depths of the jungles of ... a Secret Location. Shhh
Ripe, ancient, untouched old growth trees. Juiced to produce a premium, pristine, sweetly floral and gourmand Sandalwood oil that is Heaven to wear, and Heaven on Earth to compound.
Now to be clear - I know where this oil is from. But to protect my sources, as there are always watchful eyes studying my every move, I've opted to keep this an enigma. Adds to the user experience, in my opinion - as it forces you to focus on the quality of the scent rather than the branded value of the name of the location.
So where is it from? You can only speculate, but you'll never know for sure. It's a damn good oil ... fear not!
THE SCENT
I’ve become known over the years as the premier source of unique and rare artisan Sandalwood oils, and have recently set out to take a deep dive on Sandalwoods - exploring rare scent profiles and regions hardly seen. Pushing the bounds beyond terroir and coupling geolocation with a spectrum of distillation styles to see what we can shake out of the olfactive abyss.
In this case, we are uncoupling the geolocation and instead - focusing on the rare opportunity to try a Sandalwood oil from an untouched grove of ancient trees in hard to access, deep virgin jungle.
Interestingly - this batch reminds me of quite a few Sandalwoods that I've produced and also that have passed through my hands. It's initially reminiscent of the sweetly gourmand nature of Sri Lankan Sandalwoods, while simultaneously reminding me of a batch of Mysore from the 1940's that I used to make one of my infamous Musk Attars. It actually reminds me of several batches of old Sandalwoods that I've had from the early part of the 20th century, as well as a few grams I have from the early 1800's. It's gourmand, but also reminds me of that beloved oceanic island Sandalwood scent. In particular, my wildly popular and now sold out batch of 2018 Umami Crema. And if it's smelling this good now - I can only imagine what a few years of maturing will do to it. This is a gem worth storing away a few bottles.
It's certainly a delectably gourmand batch. Reminiscent of sweet Japanese Tonka Bean Puff Pastries made with an eye to the French butter-rich croissants, with a glorious dusting of tropical florals and ocean breezes. Drying down to powder and milky Santalols layered over musky animal fur.
It’s complex. Multifaceted. Oceanic. Gourmand and Floral. Powdery and Musky and Animalic. Interesting all the way through down to the very last whiffs still present on in till the next day. I've already been experimenting on pairing it with florals, and the sweet oceanic notes do OMG wonders to narcotic florals. If you dabble in making your own blends and Attars, Sandalwood Secrets absolutely MUST be on the shelf of your arsenal!
