There’s a bit of a story to this oil..,and it’s a story I didn’t even really find out, myself - until after it was made.

I was contacted in June of 2019 by a Phoenix Phan asking if I could make a Custom creation based on an idea he had. He gave me a list of notes and a brief overview of what he was wanting - and off to work I went.

The fragrance was originally developed as an EdP. After allowing it some time to age, I sent it off.

It’s always a little nerve wracking making fragrances - never knowing how they will be received when you put them out there. It’s exponentially more terrifying when making custom fragrances because the person you’re making them for already has an expectation of what they’ll be receiving, and you are working to create THEIR vision. Waiting to hear their feedback has been known to keep me up at night. So I sent it off and held my breath.

Several days later...I opened the most delightful message (thank heavens 😂) and a surprising backstory about what I had created. Needless to say - he loved it, and so did his coworkers!

He loved it so much, actually - he implored me make this available in the shop, and to make an Attar version. And so...here we are.

But what about that back story...?

What I was given was a list of notes and a general sense of how the fragrance should smell. What I wasn’t aware of - is I was being asked to recreate the scent of his grandmother’s old Hindu prayer cabinet. Sacred old books scented by years of aromatic prayer incense and oils, and the scent of fragrant air wafting through a Hindu temple. And surprisingly - childhood memories of the Satyamangalam Forest - home of the famed Mysore Sandalwood trees deep in Karnataka (and home to a large Tiger reserve!). Without knowing what I was aiming at...apparently I nailed it. Weird, right?

It’s one of the mysteries of art. Creating visions we’ve never seen. Encapsulating scents we’ve never smelled. Painting on a canvas of vapors.

When I had originally sent off the EdP, I simply named it after my client : "Ratnaditya EdP". When he told me this needed to be made for everyone, I asked him if it would be OK if I could name the Attar after him. Afterall, I love how his name, Ratnaditya, rolls off the tongue.

On a whim, I asked him if his name had a meaning. I was blown away when he told me, because his name really does encapsulate the essence of this fragrance.

Ratna means an exquisite stone. Aditya means sun.
In other words..."Jeweled Sunlight". Quite a fitting name for this aromatic gem.

Without further ado, I introduce Ratnaditya Attar : the scent of prayer books and sacred incense, temple air, fleeting memories, and the fragrance of the Satyamangalam Forest that is the motherland of our beloved sacred Mysore Sandalwood.
