**To be clear - this is an Attar made from a bottle of ORIGINAL vintage concentrate somewhere between 70-100 years old ... most likely closer to 100 ☺️

I find a lot of unique, rare oddities.
Always have, since I was a kid.

I happened across a small bottle of original Mitsouko Absolute - presumably the concentrate sans alcohol. I don’t know exactly how old it is, but the paper label and wax seal leads me to believe that it is old. REAL OLD.

I’m making no claims, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this was from the 1920’s - considering it was launched in 1919, that makes this unopened bottle essentially an original formulation. Considering Robertet began making these pure essences available around 1900 - it’s quite possible.

So what did I do ? Combined it with one of Rising Phoenix’s legendary Mysore Sandalwood distillations to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wear an original Mitsouko formulation in exquisite PHOENIX Attar form. 🥰

Robertet was Established in 1850. Robertet counts itself among the oldest perfumeries in Grasse, but their creations are thoroughly modern as well, having created scents for Gucci, Bond No.9 and L’Oreal. Still, it is their high-quality raw materials which made them the stuff of legend among perfume cognoscenti.

About the Original Mitsouko :

Mitsouko is a 1919 perfume by Guerlain. Its name is derived from the French transliteration of a Japanese female name, Mitsuko.

It is a fruity chypre whose Top Notes include :

Bergamot, Rose, Jasmine and Citruses

Heart Notes are Peach, Ylang-Ylang, Lilac, Rose and Jasmine

Base Notes are Oakmoss, Spices, Vetiver, Cinnamon and Amber.

Mitsouko was created by perfumer Jacques Guerlain in 1919. The perfume has remained continuously available ever since, albeit reformulated countless times. Finding an old iteration is quite rare, and highly coveted.

Mitsouko is preserved in its original 1919 formulation in the archives of the Osmothèque, donated to the collection by Thierry Wasser. It has been re-formulated several times in the modern era.

It was a favorite fragrance of Charlie Chaplin, Ingrid Bergman, Jean Harlow, Sergei Diaghilev, and Anais Nin.

There is no definitive information on the origin of the name. One account of the origin of the name is that it was inspired by the name of the heroine of Claude Farrère’s novel La bataille (The Battle). The novel is set in Japan during the Russo-Japanese War, and chronicles a fictional amour fou between a British Navy Officer and one “Mitsouko,” the wife of Fleet Admiral Marquis Yorisaka. Both Yorisaka and the British officer sail to war, and Mitsouko awaits with reserve to see which of the two will return alive to her.

The other possibility is that it was inspired by the story of Mitsuko Aoyama, the mother of Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi.
