I try to offer a diversity of distillation styles - ranging from the squeakiest clean/terpiest New Gens, to varying degrees of fermentation (ranging, as I describe them, from Mozzarella to Brie and Camembert), to incense distillations reminiscent either of a chip on charcoal or a smokeless incense note, to traditional Deg and Bapka oils cooked over wood fires, as well as connoisseur Aged/Ateek oils with decades of beautiful maturing on them.

There is something for everyone here at Rising Phoenix ... oftentimes multiple somethings !

THE SCENT

Agarwood from mountains and elevation always have distinctive scents - and this batch is no exception. Nice also that I'm able to give a specific geolocation from Kumlong - one of the towns inside the Mokokchung area of Nagaland. Considering so many woods from India or Bangladesh are sold simply as "Hindi" or "Assam" - it's nice to be very specific, and I always do my best to narrow it down as much as possible so we can enjoy the specific Terroirs of where the woods and oils are coming from.

As I mentioned, mountainous Agarwoods can develop some unique scents - and there is an airiness to this oil that reminds me a bit of some Borneo oils. It's not oceanic, like many oils from nearby the ocean can develop, so it's not like a Borneo in that regard. But rather - an airiness like that ozonic scent you get when trekking up in the mountains. There is the scent of elevation in this oil. Of stony rock outcroppings and dry forest air. The scent of campfires far away in the distance.

This is an easy oil to wear. I'd place it on JK's Cheese Scale as a Grassy Brie - very light fermentation, with a dry grassy note that's more aged dried grass than fresh green. Not Hay, either, mind you. Just a lovely dried grassy note like you'll sometimes find in some cheeses.

I also detect both types of Incense, as I denote them. Both a light smokiness - like heating chips on charcoal, as well as an incense'y note - which is not a smokey note, but reminiscent of incense. More incense'y - and only the slightest hints of wafting smoke peeking through on occasion.

I'd say this is more of a Dry Oil - it's not really Savory or Sweet. More of a Dry Incense, hints of smoke, grassiness - and high mountain airiness.

Not much Hay or Leather - although there is maybe some hints of chewy toffee in the underbelly of the oil.

As I said, it's a very easy to wear oil. Reminiscent of some Borneos without smelling oceanic or vanillic.

2015 Kumlong is an easy to wear, high mountain oil with a solid 7 years of aging at the time of release - from an area renowned for its wild trees (Nagaland), and specifically from an area we don't see too often (Mokokchung - specifically, Kumlong).

If you're new to Ouds or haven't seen too many Hindis - or are afraid of strong fermentation, but still like the oils you wear to have little Oomph, 2015 Kumlong is a no brainer.
