So I had written previously about Haflong After Burn - an oil produced from the shavings from some high grade incense chips from Haflong and Haranga Jao (two towns about 10 miles apart). Those shavings were used to produce a traditional Deg and Bapka distillation by fire - and it's an absolutely explosive oil that I love and have been a bit reluctant to sell, I'm loving it that much.

Now - imagine distilling those high grade incense chips New Gen style, with no soak … and that's exactly what we did! The experiment couldn’t have come out better. 💪🏼

THE SCENT

We always like keeping it interesting over here, doing things few, if any, think or dare to do.

We had produced After Burn from shavings from two neighboring towns in the southern reaches of Assam with a more traditional Indian set up. I wanted an ass kicker produced from the actual high grade chips that we cleaned up, and as a deep lover of the floral notes from Haflong woods - I selected the Haflong chips, black with resin, to juice New Gen-style in a small copper set up. No soak, no funk - all squeeky clean.

What I didn't expect was an Indian Agallocha, ripe with gorgeous floral notes - to also have a thick, kynamic nuance to it. Now you've heard me say - I really detest using that term, Kynamic/Kynam - as I feel it has been hijacked and is used everywhere nowadays. But I have to say ... this new pristine Haflong oil really does smell ... like raw Kynam.

And so I make use of the Chinese term, Qinam, to pay homage to this marvelous scent.

Haflong Qinam is a thick oil. Not quite thaqueel thick ... but it's dense.

The scent is also dense. Ripe floral notes. Thick tea and honey. Hints of toasted nuts. Rich wood and resin - with a drydown that, on my skin, rivals any strong musky note I've smelled in just about anything else. I find myself reluctant to sell any of this oil, as well 😆

I had a Taiwanese friend over here over the weekend. Asian noses tend to not be too fond of any detectable level of fermentation in an oil - but he's a rare exception to the rule. He LOVED After Burn. But Haflong Qinam ... I think was tugging on some heart strings.

Wearing After Burn on one wrist, and HQ on the other, he had his wife - a big lover of more clean New Gen oils - take a few deep inhales of his wrists. She was like warm on After Burn (no surprise there) - but man, her reaction to HQ! Needless to say, she was very quick to fall in love with Haflong Qinam.

So if you love those traditional florals and hays like me - go for After Burn. A personal fave of mine. You’ll love it.

But if you yearn for those pristine, beautiful oils that make angels sing - take a swing at Haflong Qinam. I’ve made a lot of pristine New Gen Hindis over the years, but never quite one like this.

Maybe grab a bottle of both for comparison - we've been given two wrists for a reason. 😉

Either way - there's no going wrong with fantastic oils like these.

For the price - this oil bats way above the price. Be sure to grab some while available.
