The Pandemic was hard on all of us, but hit Indonesia especially hard - with incredibly harsh lockdowns and restrictions on moving about. Something, as you can imagine, that would hamper business a little bit - especially one in a country so dependent on it's ties to its natural resources. But when you can't travel in or out of cities ...

I've mentioned previously that I have a new distillation partnership in Indonesia that I've been cultivating since a little before the shenanigans of 2020 started. My new distillation team member was working previously for a Gulf operation before becoming a full-time member of Rising Phoenix, and with it came a lot of interesting connections. One such connection was with the People's Representative Council of Jayapura. The Head of the Council being one of his clients.

Well, when it rains, it rains on all of us - and this Council Head was pushing through some tough times with the lockdowns. This is how we came in to this batch of wood we used to produce this oil ...

Sentani is a highly restricted area under close government regulation - and we were able to acquire this batch of wood from Cycloops Mountain directly from the very person in charge of the area. Pretty cool, eh?


ABOUT


For those not familiar with the unique world of Ouds and Agarwoods - Papua and Papua New Guinea - two halves of the same island - yield some of the most unique Agarwoods which have produced some of the most beloved oils from Gyrinops and Filaria species.

Most commonly - we see long dead Gyrinops trees recovered from mangroves and rivers down around Meroke. Even more prized are the live tree specimens - with the most distinctive oils being produced from Filaria.

As many are more familiar with Meroke in the South, or Jayapura almost directly North - few have experienced woods and oils from the areas on the outer banks of Jayapura - let alone from the protected area of Sentani.


SCENT


I’ve been mentioning in some of our new Indonesian oil listings about our newest team member. For the better part of 3 years we’ve been running test batches in his equipment, and now that he’s an official member of Rising Phoenix, I’ve outfitted him with new equipment to produce expressly for me.

You've probably seen some of the new New Gen Sandalwoods I've been releasing - the Imperial Series. These are produced in our new vacuum distillation equipment. Needless to say, they are excellent - and soon I'll begin releasing some of the Ouds we've been working on using that equipment.

This is one of our test batches, produced in copper - New Gen style, before we began firing up the new set up.

I don’t want to overhype this oil … but I DO want to impress just how unique it is.

For starters, you’ve heard me mention how some coastal oils will carry the scent of sea air and ocean breezes. As if the trees have inhaled deeply of the ocean air and stored those deep breaths and memories in their trunks.

**This oil is rich with oceanic overtones 🥰

There is also a creamy sweetness - not buttery - but definitely a milkiness with sweet floral overtones that'll perk you up with every inhalation.

Although the oil settled into a deep burgundy red color - it started out Green - and there is a green tone to the scent of this oil that I think pervades it in its entirety.

It's incensy, maybe even a little spicy. And that scent of Filaria Resin in the drydown is to die for!
