Meghalaya woods and oils are generally known for their sweet hay and suede notes, along with fruity plums and dried raisins. Not so, here ... more on that in a moment.

Meghalaya in Sanskrit means "the abode of clouds". It's a hilly region in NorthEastern india in the foothills of the Himalayas. It's a high altitude region that also happens to be one of the wettest places on earth, yielding ideal conditions for growing Agarwood.

The Garo Hills are part of the Garo-Khasi range in Meghalaya, India. They are inhabited mainly by tribal dwellers, the majority of whom are Garo people. The range is part of the Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion.

Garo Hills is known for its abundance of wildlife, attracting naturalists and photographers to capture the multifaceted sights of a unique range of flora and fauna. Two mountain ranges - the Arabella range and the Tura range, pass through the Garo Hills, forming the great Balpakram valley in between.

Manipur woods and oils have long been cherished as some of the best from the region. Citrus and fruit notes can be teased from the woods in non-fermented distillations, as well as with the occasional spicy peppery notes - a characteristic unique to this region.

What happens when you co-distill them??

SCENT

This oil yields all kinds of surprises many thanks to the magic of co-distillation.

I think it's the Garo Hills Meghalaya content that is yielding a toffee-like sweetness reminiscent of milk chocolate and hits of citrus from the Manipuri.

Its a deep, rich scent - reminiscent of Mahogany and Teak libraries and shots of bitter espresso wafting into the air as people do their research.

I get less fruitiness - and more soft-worn leather stretched across dark, heavy wood furniture - and maybe a pinch of spiciness hiding in the cracks.

"Dark toffee-like Oudiness with the Sweetness of Milk Chocolate and a dash of Citrus" is how I would describe this oil.

Overall its an incredible oil - tons of nuance and layers and layers of Oudy goodness to explore.

Small batch, small yields - grab some while it's available!
