For those not familiar with my work, I've got several distillation operations in several different locations now. Each location has a unique set up, yielding unique oils - and we are generally distilling woods within their own countries of origin.
In addition to oils that I find suitable and pick up along the way - these unique in-house distillations allow me to offer my clients around the world some truly unique odor profiles from across the Oud-producing world.
I wanted to do something reaaaaally special to kick off Chinese New Year 2023, and this is one heck of a launch.

ABOUT
For those not familiar with the unique world of Ouds and Agarwoods - Papua and Papua New Guinea - two halves of the same island - yield some of the most unique Agarwoods which have produced some of the most beloved oils from Gyrinops and Filaria species.
Most commonly - we see long dead Gyrinops trees recovered from mangroves and rivers down around Meroke. Even more prized are the live tree specimens - with the most distinctive oils being produced from Filaria.
As many are more familiar with Meroke in the South, or Jayapura almost directly North - few have experienced woods and oils from the center of the Interior - in this case, from Asiki, within the Boven Digoel Regency.
Far from the ocean and surrounded by dense jungle - I expected this single tree haul would yield something truly incredible, and it didn't disappoint.
SCENT
Unlike many Papuan and PNG woods which come from near the coastline, Asiki comes from the interior and also from a live tree.
This is of import because so many Papuan woods - especially those sold from the norther tip around Jayapura and the southern tip from around Meroke - are usually recovered dead trees from swamps, rivers, and mangroves. So they smell very earthy and sometimes muddy - not necessarily a bad thing, mind you (check out our Meroke 2018 currently in the shop - an excellent specimen of this type!).
Live Tree Filaria can have unique green or floral notes, and I'm proud to say - Asiki hits both of these nails on the heads.
This oil has one heck of a mind buzz - piercing terpenes off the charts with our proprietary extraction method. If you like New Gen oils ... Asiki Boven is a MUST.
Asiki burts out of the bottle with Papuan Green Kynamic notes. In fact, it reminds me of a batch of Green Papuan Kyara I have that I'll offer to clients outside of the shop here. Gorgeous, green jungle air and Kynamic mind buzz - and I don't use that term lightly.
The floral notes on this are just incredible. It's floral without smelling like any particular flower. Maybe I'd say it's even a hint of Peach'y. It reminds me, in a way, of what the air in the Hawaiin jungles smelled like ... florals and greenery and hints of tropical fruits wafting in every breath. Almost sweet tasting on the tongue. Even just from opening the bottle and taking a deep inhale, the scent will linger in my nostrils for many hours, tingling and teasing me, begging me to apply some.
This is a single tree that we used for this distillation, which also makes it unique in the world of Ouds. In some ways it's like capturing a single essence or soul - rather than the average of many distilled together. I think that is in part why this oil came out so unique.
Beyond saying it is Green and Floral and intensely Oudy and that it has great mind buzz - I wanted to offer this oil as my first new Oud of 2023 and launching just in time for Chinese New Year as a way of commemorating this unique vacuum distillation project I've undertaken in Indonesia. I've already got several new things in the works for 2023 and 2024 - so I hope you'll join me in kicking off the New Year with a kynamic BANG!
I can only imagine what a few years of aging will do to this oil - I'd highly recommend grabbing a bottle to use, and another to shelve. I promise - this oil is one to invest in.
